JOB SUMMARY

The Financial Literacy Coach (Student Services Program Coordinator) will work at the Waterbury campus with the RISE Scholars and under the Center for Access and Postsecondary Success (CAPS). They will promote retention and graduation of undergraduate students from traditionally underserved backgrounds by providing individualized financial literacy support and coaching through one-on-one and group sessions, and connections to relevant campus and community resources. They will also participate in several projects to promote our students' successful transition, persistence, and success at the Waterbury campus.

This position reports to the Director for Student Success, Equity, & Inclusion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guides students and families in the timely completion of necessary financial paperwork, such as the FAFSA and scholarship applications.  Support students in understanding financial documents, loans, and processes. Works with other offices to assist students in completing requirements and answering questions as necessary.
  • Helps RISE students to build financial literacy skills, create a budget, manage their money and/or loans, and develop financial goals for their future.
  • Works individually with students to navigate financial difficulties that could affect their persistence and graduation. Connects students to departmental, University, and community resources as necessary.
  • Implements informative and engaging workshops and group sessions which promote financial literacy and wellness.
  • Helps to develop online financial hub for students to access financial literacy materials and training.
  • Oversees student workers in the CAPS office, taking the lead on hiring, training, and their supervision.
  • Serves as an instructor for a First Year Experience (FYE) course.
  • Uses the University's reporting systems to maintain information while adhering to data integrity and reporting standards.
  • Assesses students' knowledge and measures student growth in financial wellness.
  • Manages, maintains, and stays up to date on Federal, State and University regulations of student records, and adheres to FERPA requirements for student information.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of relevant experience, or advanced degree in a related field and one year of experience in financial advising and/or counseling students.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the college financial aid process.
  • Experience developing and implementing financial literacy practices and educational programming.
  • Ability and knowledge to support undergraduate students, including students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience serving as a college financial aid counselor and/or financial literacy counselor.
  • Knowledge of Department of Education documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Experience teaching or conducting workshops.
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to working at a diverse and urban campus.
  • Ability to build rapport with students, families, and University partners.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Starting salary is $57,505.
