Job Description

As Forman School approaches its centennial celebration and opens the doors to its new Cognition and Learning Building and Diagnostic Center, there has never been a better time to join a visionary team of leaders and educators, taking the science of learning and strengths of neurodiverse learners to the next level. 

Forman School’s inaugural Chief Cognition & Learning Officer, an innovative position new to the school, will work closely with the Director of Cognition & Learning and Director of Studies to lead the development and implementation of curriculum design and programmatic best practices for the department and across the school relative to essential skills in executive functions and metacognition. This new leadership role will drive innovation and commitment to standards and quality of educational best practices within Forman’s Cognition & Learning programming.

Key Responsibilities

In partnership with the Director of Cognition & Learning and Director of Studies, the Chief Cognition & Learning Officer will lead Forman’s commitment to developing an innovative research-backed curriculum that will further the development of best practices in the school’s Cognition & Learning programming, focusing on the skills needed to support neurodiverse learners.

  • Leverage the Cognition & Learning team of educators to innovate on the school’s curriculum design and instruction, ensuring best practices in all areas of the school with special emphasis on collaboration with the English Department. 
  • Employ research-backed practices for neurodiverse learners in all areas of Cognition & Learning programming at the school. Work with the Director of Cognition & Learning to integrate new strategies gleaned from research conducted with university partners. 
  • Ensure structured literacy practices follow industry standards for research-backed programming with ongoing progress monitoring for student success outcomes. ? Support placement of students in Cognition & Learning and core content area classes based on educational testing and student achievement. 
  • Organize and lead efficient and effective meetings of the Cognition & Learning team to ensure consistent practices within the department that track to annual goals focused on student outcomes. 
  • Conduct ongoing observation, documentation, feedback, and growth for all members of the Cognition & Learning team on an annual basis. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Studies on professional development for the Cognition & Learning team that commits to a shared efficacy of professional and experiential opportunities and education excellence in the classroom. 
  • Work with the Director of Cognition & Learning to implement progress monitoring tools and an overall practice for Forman students that supports ongoing growth and academic success with reporting to families that maintains a transparent partnership. 
  • Teach a reduced course load and work with a small cohort of students within Cognition + Learning. 
  • Proactively communicate with families to support a strong understanding of student needs as well as areas of growth while addressing concerns as they arise within the department. 
  • Assist the Admission team in the review of student psychoeducation testing and admission file review to determine mission fit and academic programming for prospective students. 

Educational and Experiential Background and Credentials

  • Advanced Degree in education with an emphasis in neurodiversity and learning differences 
  • Background and experience in curriculum development and design 
  • Proven track record of educational leadership and innovation
